The Popularity of Surrogacy in Military Households

The Union Tribune ran an article in the June 29th Sunday edition on surrogacy among military wives featuring our own founder of the company, surrogacy lawyer Stephanie Caballero! The article is another responding to the recent Newsweek article on surrogacy among military wives. The Union Tribune wrote about the many military wives and their growing interest in becoming surrogates; referring to some military housing neighborhoods as a “sorority” of surrogates among households. Stephanie is quoted saying that 5 in 15 surrogates are military wives. This increasing statistic can form a stable support group of woman helping those who are unfortunately infertile and have the desire for a family of their own.

The article stated how the military provides wives of men in service with TRI-CARE medical insurance which can “trim about one-fifth off the surrogacy price tag.” As Stephanie said in the article, many of our clients specifically request military wives as their hopeful surrogates because Tri-Care has such great coverage and the women tend to be responsible because of their own regimented household. When couples decide to turn to surrogacy it can become an expensive venture, so the medical coverage that the military provides helps to alleviate some of the financial burden. This stands as a positive article that gives both sides of the argument behind the controversies of surrogacy, specifically among military wives, however ultimately showed it to be a more rewarding experience for couples and their surrogate rather than some financial exchange.
